All about DBF

International work

International cooperation with concrete associations in the other Nordic countries and around Europe is important to DBF.

The association acts as a channel for new research in the field, as well as knowledge on the use and maintenance of concrete, which can be beneficial to our members.

As part of its international work over the years, DBF has helped establish a number of international scientific journals, which are also available to members.

Nordic Concrete Federation

The Nordic Concrete Federation is a collaboration between the concrete associations of the five Nordic countries; Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. NCF was founded in 1978.

Its objective is to promote collaboration between concrete specialists in the Nordic countries to stimulate Nordic research into concrete and the development of concrete technology, and to ensure that the use of concrete maintains a positive impact in the Nordic region and internationally.

NCF contributes by arranging Nordic concrete conferences, producing publications, committee work and contributing to research cooperation, such as Nordic concrete research meetings and awarding the Nordic Concrete Federation Medal.

The original guidelines were revised on 24 March 1992 to the current wording in section 9:

Practical work is carried out at the meetings held once or twice a year between the chairmen and secretaries of the five Nordic concrete associations. Alongside these meetings, activities are planned aimed at promoting Nordic cooperation. The Chairman and Secretary of the Nordic Concrete Federation rotate between the five concrete associations.

The Research Council aims to promote cooperation between researchers in the Nordic region by holding research meetings at which Nordic research projects into concrete are presented and where young researchers from outside the region can come together.

The publication Nordic Concrete Research (NCR) is issued every six months with articles on concrete technology, durability and structural design. The articles in NCR are reviewed by two reviewers.
Every three years, one of the NCR issues is dedicated to extended abstracts of ongoing research projects presented at the Nordic Concrete Research Symposium. The NCR Best Paper Award for Young Researchers is presented at the symposium for the best paper written by a researcher under the age of 35 and published in NCR regular volumes within the last three years.

RCNCF also helps arrange Nordic workshops at which a limited number of active Nordic researchers meet on a specific topic.

The Nordic Panel for Concrete Standardization consists of Nordic representatives from the standardisation committees nominated by each of the concrete associations. The aim is to coordinate and thereby strengthen the Nordic voice in CEN.

NPCS meets approximately once a year to discuss experiences and cooperation in their work on standardisation. In recent years, discussions have mainly focused on the implementation of EN 206 and coordination of common Nordic interests in work on the next generation of Eurocode 2.

FIB is an international organisation intended to promote the international research and study of scientific and practical matters capable of advancing the technical, economic, aesthetic and environmental performance of concrete structures.

The knowledge developed by FIB is shared via bulletins, events, workshops, courses, etc.

Based entirely on voluntary work, FIB was formed in 1998 through the merger of the Euro-International Committee for Concrete (CEB) and the International Federation for Pre-stressing (FIP). These predecessor organisations have existed independently since 1953 and 1952 respectively.
